Greetings and welcome to the launch of the possibly final Celebrity series for the UK, although the official word right now is 'negotiations are ongoing' that is in terms of a new contract for the show
Emma: Baton down the hatches. We. are. back.
Opening credits, and a fine job someone has done of them too, including a look on the other side of the eye
The usual whoop whoop in the compound as Emma welcomes us in
Emma: Welcome to Celebrity Big Brother, Eye of the Storm. You have been waiting a while for us, haven't you. But all I can say is that some things are worth the wait. For the last few months a storm has been a-brewing, but tonight it is getting closer. Speculation, tabloid rumours and fake news all stop right now. We've scoured the planet for the most exciting headline grabbing housemates ever, and let me tell you they're a formidable bunch from every walk of life.
But they all share one thing in common, they have all been in the eye of a media storm. For some the price of fame has been their livelihoods, relationships and reputations. Now these notroious VIP's have faced prison, bankruptcy and even an international manhunt. But tonight it is time for them to weather another storm, as they enter our famous house. Speaking of which, shall we go in?
We start off with the closed staircase, which makes a welcome return after so many years away. To put it in the executives words, to keep the outside world OUTSIDE. Even Emma says it takes her back to the good old days.
There are 47 species of animal ornaments around the house, and even more cameras than normal. Before the show started, the execs said there were going to be no cameramen looking through the windows and the cameras are going be more automatic. Doesn't make much sense to me either, but hopefully it will make more sense as we get further into this series.
The bedroom can be seen from the kitchen via a window. Emma points out that along with the animals, there are 22 novelty pineapples.Yes you heard that correctly, PINEAPPLES. Lots more storage space as well
Zero privacy from the bathroom to the bedroom, so that could possibly curtail some conversations that are not meant to be heard. Staying in the bathroom, we then see the big shower and the mirror next to said. Wish I had those for my place.
Into the kitchen area, and an absolutely massive dining table. Noble housemates of the round table and all that.
Into the garden next, and plenty of sun loungers to be seen. We then see the living room, and three big couches and a plasma which will be used for various events like eviction nights and so forth when Emma goes live to the house. The housemates can also be locked in this living area, which Emma hints at happening sometime into this series.
Worth noting that the evictees will have a LONG walk to the door when they leave
Emma points out the big red curtain by the pool and jacuzzi, that is tonight's twist which will be revealed later
And finally the long awaited reveal of the diary room and the chair, which I have to say I absolutely love. Note, that the Diary Room chair does change colour from silver to red, could be significant as we move into this series, you never know
And so, that's the tour concluded. All that's needed now is some housemates, so get ready here they come....
Housemates
A link to their pictures and profiles will be provided at the end should you need more information about them
1. Kirstie Alley - Best known for the Look Who's Talking films, Lt. Saavik in Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan, and also a major role in the sitcom Cheers, and also a Scientology supporter
Good acquisition, and a big name to get us started
Two positive notes as the housemates are introduced:
1. Booing and heckling has been banned, so everyone gets a fair reception as they go in the house
2. Return of the cars, as in they arrive in cars like the good old days
Loving this feel, wish we could have had more of this in the Five era and maybe the show wouldn't have been in such bad shape
After her VT and short interview with Emma, Kirstie goes in the house and immediately Big Brother summons her to the Diary Room
Opening night twist
Big Brother tells Kirstie she is going to be the President of the BB house, which basically means she and the VP. whoever that is, will have their own suite with powers and privileges. As the housemates go in, Kirstie will interview them for the position and the public get to choose the VP from the remaining housemates. She is not allowed to tell them she is the President.
So basically it's the UK version of the Head of Household or thereabouts
Back to the housemate intros.....
2. Ryan Thomas - Formerly of Emmerdale and Coronation Street. Filed for bankruptcy.
3. Jermaine Pennant - Former Arsenal footballer. Serial drink driver.
4. Chloe Ayling - Model. Kidnapped for 6 days, and her kidnapper was jailed for 16 years
5. Rodrigo Alves - Surgery addict
6. Daniel Osborne - Married to former Eastenders star Jacqueline Jossa. Allegedly had an affair with....
7. Gabby Allen - Former Love Islander. She and Daniel have always denied having an affair, no awkwardness between them as they probably both saw each other in The Sun, who unfortunately leaked the lineup. She got cheated on by fellow Islander Marcel.
8. Hardeep Singh Kohli - Got done for sexual harassment when he was on the BBC payroll, but interestingly played a part backstage on the first ever Big Brother
9. Ben Jardine - Got married on a reality show, but cheated on that wife after one week. Probably would have been better suited for Civilian.
10. Roxanne Pallett - Former Emmerdale star and had a whoopsie on the racing track which resulted in several bad injuries. Engaged to boyfriend Lee.
11. Sally Morgan - Dodgy psychic who got into a bit of a pile of poo and accused of exploiting people. 50/50 split on whether she is genuine or a charlatan. You decide.
12. Natalie Nunn - Reality star in America on a show called Bad Girls club.Someone from the Tiffany Pollard mould. Can see her getting far on the basis of 'being entertaining' Winner? Probably not
13. Nick Leeson - You may know him from the 90's when he brought down Bearings Bank and went on the run
And there are your housemates.....
Back to the opening night twist and BB announces to everyone Kirstie is the house President and the public will be voting for the Vice President. Short recess for voting and more F and F interviews to fill the time.
Wish we could have seen the VP interviews so we could have made a fair opinion on who to vote for, but with time constraints and housemates to chuck in there....
After a commercial and some BOTS promotion, the VP result is revealed and taking the VP spot will be RYAN
First eviction will be 24 August, but I'm sure there will be twists a-plenty in the next few days to decide who will actually go on the chopping block for the first public vote next week
And that's it for the launch....
Final thoughts
A good launch, but I don't think the F and F interviews were needed and felt more like filler. So many nice reminders of the past though, especially with the cars and the closed staircase. I really hope that the outside really does stay out, as in no outside contact such as viewers opinions via mean tweets, friends and family popping in to tell them how they are being perceived, evicted housemates staying out
One pipe dream I hope will happen is that they will go back to making the final week a happy one, and not make the finalists thoroughly miserable with stirring tasks or sending back in ex housemates with a grudge. Just let them let their hair down and be happy.
One final hope is that Diary Room conversations remain in the Diary Room, and not played back to the house for a few cheap arguments.
A cast that some have written off, but it's usually the more unknown people that are the aces in the pack. So let's give them a chance to bed in, and just basically, well, give them a chance to see what they bring to the house.
All in all, my compliments to Emma and the crew for a good night and well done to the crowd for being very well behaved
That being said, thank you for reading this post if you have made it this far. Any retweets, shares or likes are greatly appreciated
