Up north we go, citizens, where it's goodbye Julie and hello Arisa as Big Brother Canada opens its doors for another season, and indeed the first of two longer slogs as the civilians take centre stage.
Welcome to a brand new mint fresh season of Big Brother from the Batcave, as we start out the journey to find out who will follow in Paras's footsteps in being crowned Big Brother Canada winner
This season's theme is based on spies, with many twists and turns as you would expect with Big Brother, and here comes Arisa through the eye, and may I just say the influence of the UK show has definitely rubbed off over there looking at the stage, and some of the crew and even Arisa herself were part of the final year of the UK show.
We are given a house tour, and there's a very ominous Blood Veto which will be explained in due course. Will admit I am intrigued to what this may be.
Back to Arisa to introduce the first twist of the season, which basically entailed Canada's Vote to which houseguest would get the first power of the season, and we are introduced to houseguest #1, DAMIEN
Damien, 28, is from British Columbia and is very proud of his First Nation heritage. The rule is simple, he mustn't let the other houseguests know he has already been in to look them over. He is then told he must find the secret room in which he will do his surveillance of the other houseguests. It takes a little while, but he eventually finds the secret room which does contain the Blood Veto and a shedload of monitors.
Time to bring in the rest of them now, they will be in groups going in. Nothing sinister this time, at least not yet anyway.
First group in are:
- Laura, 26, and she hails from Calgary, Alberta. She is a judicial clerk in a regional court.
- Dane, 27, from British Columbia. Civil technician, and some time ice hockey player. Worth noting that he has some false teeth which comes with being a ice hockey player, as he demonstrates.
- Chelsea, 30, from Edmonton, Alberta. She is a radio host, and says she is there to win
- Adam, 27, from Newfoundland. He works in the oil fields.
- Eddie, 25, from Montreal. Originally from China, and is learning to speak English. He claims to be the most intelligent houseguest
Second group in are:
- Mark, 29, from Edmonton, Alberta. He is a travel guide, and comes from a deeply religious family. He says he himself is not really religious
- Samantha, from Newfoundland. She claims to be a minor celebrity through her tattooing eyebrows business
- Anthony, 31, from Ontario. He is a fitness fanatic, and says he will be a comp beast. Have to say massive build, but can he back up his bold words? We'll have to wait and see.
- Kiera, 23, from British Columbia. Short intro, but she says she likes to be the alpha female
- Kailyn, 42, from Grand Praire, Alberta. Claims to be a psychic. If you add a t between the I and the L then it's the same as that fruitloop from BB USA. Just thought I would throw that in there.
Arisa informs Damien his intel gathering is over, and he will go in with the last three inmates who are:
- Kyra, 25, from Montreal. Kyra identifies as gender non binary which means it's a catch-all category for gender identities that are not exclusively male or female.
- Estefania, from Quebec. She is a student who loves yoga, and also plays the ukelele
- Maki, 31, from Toronto. A poer and a DJ.
Now that they are all in, along with Damien, Arisa appears on the plasma and informs them that they must tell each other their weaknesses. But there's a twist, because through a shit stirring BB, they are shown their VT's where they talk about their true weaknesses. Cue a lot of awkwardness, and very sly on BB's part. I sure hope this is not going to be the norm as we had enough of that in the Five era of BB UK, but then again this format is much more cut throat so maybe it will help, or it will hinder. We will just have to wait and see, and there is plenty of time to go in this season.
HoH competition
Operation Escape is the name of this first competition and here is how it works. We see the houseguests with their hands tied and sitting in their various cubicles. Obviously everyone is playing as this is the first competition. To put it simply, they have to untie themselves to get to the keys which will let them out, and then they have to dig their way to the other side of the garden and press their buzzer. However there are only seven spots, but it is not revealed yet if there is a penalty for those houseguests who do not get out. The first houseguest to dig themselves out will be crowned the first HoH of the season.
The escapees in order were Adam, Kiera, Estefania, Kailyn, Anthony, Mark and finally Maki
Adam digs his way out the quickest, and unsurprisingly gets to his buzzer first and he claims the first HoH of the season. Nominations will be revealed in the next episode
Arisa announces that whoever gets nominated in Adam's reign, will stay on the block as there will be NO Veto competition so someone WILL leave after only a 24 hour stay.
For the final twist of the night, we are introduced to:
- Holly, 34, from Newfoundland. Armoured Guard. Not a very good attitude I have to say. Says she doesn't have a strategy, which is a bit dangerous
- Cory, 29, from New Brunswick. A teacher by trade, and claims she could think five steps ahead in this game. We'll have to see about that if she gets in
Only one will go in through Canada's Vote and will be given a special mission to be revealed in the next episode.
That about wraps it up for this episode, and may I say welcome back to Big Brother Canada and Arisa.
To be continued in Episode 2.....
Who will Adam nominate? Who will get evicted? Holly or Cody? Stay tuned for the next episode
Shout out to BB on Blast, who have brought out a new podcast for BB Canada and that can be found right here, and be sure to hit up the links on the right for all your USA, Canada, and possibly UK news as well
The new season is officially underway, and I suspect it will be a good one as we get to know these people
Until next time, stay frosty, keep on rocking and cheerio....
